Isle, South Carolina
Deep-Water Fishing Tournament
Deep-water fishing teams from across
the Carolinas gathered on Thursday, Aug. 7, at the newly renovated
Belle Isle Marina just south of Georgetown for the inaugural Belle
Isle Marina Wahoo Tournament. Tournament participants will compete
for a chance to win the $5,000 first prize. “We want this to be an
enjoyable competition for everyone,” says event chairperson
MaryTorgersen. “We’re very proud of the facilities at Belle Isle
Yacht Club and we want to share them with other fishing and boating
enthusiasts.”
The event is sponsored by 40
businesses and residents who contributed to the grand prize. Other
donors have provided an array of fishing equipment, charters, custom
jewelry and local gift items for the Aug. 8 silent auction. In
addition to two full days of fishing on Aug. 8 and 9, boat team
members will enjoy receptions at the marina, hospitality in one of
the newly constructed Yacht Club villas, and an awards banquet under
a tent at the marina on the final night.
Members of the Belle Isle waterfront
community, through their Tournament Committee and Yacht Club Board
of Stewards, have taken the lead in organizing this first-ever
tournament. Members and guests are cordially invited to attend the
Aug. 9 awards reception and banquet. Tickets are available at the
Belle Isle main gate for $15 per person.
“Our sponsors have been wonderful and
the location is exceptional,” says Tournament Rules Committee member
Cam Kreps. “If the weather cooperates and the fish are biting, we’ll
have everything we need.”
The original Belle Isle Yacht Club was
established in 1972; today it has 128 members. For information about
